Before the records

1989–1997

David Dewese and Jerry James met at church camp in 1989 and went to Poteet High School in Mesquite, Texas. By 1994 they were telling people they were in a band called The Foxymorons; then they found a drum kit in a Sunday-school room and started making noisy tapes. At colleges three hours apart (David at Howard Payne in Brownwood, Jerry at SMU in Dallas) they mailed each other mix tapes, and then songs. In 1997 David co-founded The Luxury Liners with his college friend Chad Edgington and moved with the band to Nashville.

The 1990s

The Silver Leaves 7-inch reached a Bay Area label, The American Pop Project, which released Calcutta in September 1999, before the band had played a single show. Calcutta was recorded in Nashville by Mike Poole.

Two bands and a spare bedroom

The 2000s

The busiest decade. The Foxymorons played their first show at SXSW in March 2000 and released Rodeo City. The Luxury Liners made four records by 2006; when Chad Edgington left Nashville in 2001, David carried the band on. Hesitation Eyes was recorded in David’s spare bedroom in Nashville. Then came a TV placement, a clothing line and David’s first solo album.

The 2010s

Bible Stories was launched at a house show in Nashville. Late in 2010, after 13 years in Nashville, David moved to San Diego. Fake Yoga began at Jerry’s house in Fort Worth in December 2013 and was finished at The Echo Lab in Argyle, Texas. In 2019 David came home to Texas.
