Licensing and sync

David owns 99.9% of his masters and publishing, so clearing his songs is quick. Foxymorons songs are shared 50/50 with Jerry James.

The catalog runs from 1998 to 2026: warm, hooky guitar pop and acoustic songs across David’s solo records, The Foxymorons and The Luxury Liners. Every original Foxymorons song is credited to David Dewese and Jerry James, split 50/50, so their publishing is shared (the sleeves print “American Viceroy / I Saw The Ocean (SESAC)”). The exceptions are listed below.

Placements

Songs from the catalog on television.

Music from the catalog has also been used in a Bealls department store commercial (clip on YouTube: Bealls commercial) and a Nature Conservancy of Canada video (clip on YouTube: Nature Conservancy of Canada video).

How to license a song

  1. Find the song on Music. Each release page lists the label and, where known, the credits and where to stream it.
  2. Send a request through the contact form with the topic “Licensing / sync”: the production, the use (scene, trailer, ad, theme), the term and territory, and your deadline.
  3. David reads every message and replies when he can.

Exceptions

  • Regurgitation (The Foxymorons, 2001) is a covers album. Its songs belong to their original writers, so it is not offered for licensing.
  • Next Christmas (2009) mixes David’s own songs with traditional carols and “Tears For Christmas”, written by Todd Anderson. Only David’s own songs are his to license.
  • Believe EP (2001) mixes David’s own songs with a cover of Cher’s “Believe”. Only David’s own songs are his to license.
  • Some records first came out on other labels: Hesitation Eyes (Heatstroke Records), Believe EP (Echomusic), Rodeo City (The American Pop Project), Sound As Ever (Echomusic), Calcutta (The American Pop Project) and the live Shake It Up single (Texas Music Café). Ask, and David will say who to talk to.
