The Luxury Liners are a power-pop band co-founded in 1997 by David Dewese and Chad Edgington, who took it to Nashville together. Chad left Nashville in 2001, and David has carried the band on since. The name comes from the Gram Parsons song “Luxury Liner”.

## Three threads, one songwriter

The Foxymorons, The Luxury Liners and David’s own records, year by year: every release from each project, marked by its cover, with all three still going in 2026.

The Foxymorons: from 1994, records 1998 to 2022, 13 releases. The Luxury Liners: from 1997, records 2000 to 2026, 7 releases, with none between 2006 and 2021. Solo: first solo show in 2001, records 2008 to 2021, 4 releases, with none between 2012 and 2021. All three run on to 2026. Dashed lines are years without records: before each project’s first one, and gaps of eight years or more. Each release is marked by its cover.

Each small cover is a release. Dashed lines mark the quiet years.

## A long-distance band

From their college years on, the two Foxymorons lived in different cities. Songs traveled by mailed cassette, then voicemail, then phone memo. Scroll to follow the tape: it shuttles between the two friends and rests wherever David was living.

Schematic, not to scale: California, Texas and Tennessee. The tape ends back in Dallas, where David lives now.

1. 1989–1992

   ### Dallas, Texas

David and Jerry meet in 1989: church camp, then Poteet High in Mesquite. The band that starts as a joke, with a borrowed Sunday-school drum kit and a tape recorder, comes later, in 1994. At home, David’s father, Will, a ’60s rocker, is still his big influence, and his mother, Doris, is his biggest fan.
2. 1992–1996

   ### Brownwood ⇄ Dallas

David goes to Howard Payne in Brownwood in 1992; Jerry is at SMU in Dallas. They reconnect in 1994: “Our colleges were about three hours apart, so the cassette trading began that way… Eventually those tapes were filled with new original songs.” (David, 2001)

3. 1997–2010

   ### Nashville ⇄ Texas and Los Angeles

After a year back in Dallas, David moves to Nashville with Chad in 1997. Jerry’s tapes come from Dallas, Austin (2001–03), Los Angeles (2003–04) and, from 2004, Fort Worth. “The postman is practically the third member of James and Dewese’s group…”

   Quote: Dallas Observer, 1999
4. 2010–2019

   ### San Diego ⇄ Fort Worth

After 13 years in Nashville, David moves to San Diego. Fake Yoga starts at Jerry’s house in Fort Worth on one of David’s trips. Songs now travel as phone memos.
5. 2019–now

   ### Dallas, Texas

In 2019 the prodigal son returns home. David lives in Dallas, back in the part of Texas where The Foxymorons began, and where the tape finally rests.

## The catalog

24 releases since 1998, across three projects: 4 solo, 13 by The Foxymorons and 7 by The Luxury Liners.

## Licensing

David owns 99.9% of the masters and publishing of his own songs; original Foxymorons songs are co-written 50/50 with Jerry James.

Songs from the catalog have been placed in television: The Foxymorons’ “This Heart Of Mine” on ABC’s *Men in Trees*, and The Luxury Liners’ “Dreaming” on *One Tree Hill* and “Sunshine” as a FOX Sports theme.
